Fishy Websites and How to Identify Them
During class I introduced a questionable website.
In this blog, I would like to present the dubious points of this website and my own opinion on it.
Nukepills.com, based in North Carolina, USA, is a mail order site for radiation protection pharmaceuticals and supplements. The company primarily sells **Potassium Iodide (commonly known as KI)**, a product used to protect the thyroid gland from radioactive iodine, to individuals, governments, and corporations.
They have also sold the product to Japan.
There are three points that this website is dubious and dangerous.
①The fact that the product is very dangerous but is discounted, as if it were on sale. It is like a shein ,a cheap online store.
②There is no official approval has been granted by the government.
③There is a lack of detailed clarification regarding the ingredients of the product.
I found this website very suspicious for the above three reasons. I thought it was necessary to choose carefully because purchasing a suspicious product without checking it carefully could be life-threatening.
In addition, you should always buy medicines that have been officially approved by the government for you to consume.
In addition, websites that overstate that they are cheap or discounted are often fishy.
This is because important, life-saving products should be sold at a fair price, even if it is a little expensive.
‐How to tell a good website from a bad one‐
The most important points for me in understanding the quality of a website is reliability and the quality of continents or information in the website.Reliability can be judged by whether the information is factual, whether the source is clear, and whether it is impartial.
The quality of content can be judged by whether it contains unique perspectives and in-depth analysis, and whether it is updated frequently.
I considered websites that fit these criteria to be good websites, and those that did not fit these criteria to be bad websites.
Among them, the website I trusted and used the most was the BBC.
They clearly state the source of their information, so they are reliable.
I also found them to be very trustworthy because they maintain a neutral stance, independent of political positions or commercial interests.
In addition, they are well-known around the world, so they update their information frequently, which makes them very reliable.
Finally, I would like to introduce some websites which my classmates recommended.
①New York Times
They are really famous all over the world, international and neutral in their reporting. They have reporters around the world and are strong in on-the-ground and investigative reporting.
②Asahishinbunn
They are known for writing articles that are critical of the administration. They are liberal.
It is one of the traditional and reliable newspapers in Japan, especially writing articles about education and culture politely, so it is really interesting.
